IAN set for third hurricane landfall in South Carolina…

| Storm Report 2022

From west to east:

Hurricane IAN is currently 70 miles south-east of Charleston South Carolina heading north at 12 knots. Satellite images show that the storm has re-developed deep convection near the centre but only partial due to upper level shear and unlike its Florida crossing, is expected to dissipate soon after landfall. Currently producing winds gusting 85 knots and  a windfield radius of 180 miles  with an HSI rating of 11 (6 for size and 5 for intensity) IAN is expected to make a landfall in South Carolina this afternoon and rapidly transition into an extratropical low tonight and dissipate tomorrow night. Despite this, dangerous winds and a life-threatening storm surge will rapidly increase along the coast during the next few hours.

Disturbance Thirty Six is currently leaving the African coast moving west at 8 knots. A west-nor’westerly track is expected for the next few days but at this time, its future track and intensity are uncertain.

Stand by for hurricane force winds and coastal flooding along the coast of South Carolina.
