Calm seas. Happy sailors.

From west to east;

Disturbance Thirty Eight is now centred 350 miles north of the mouth of the Amazon headed west at 10 knots. This will curve slightly to the north and parallel the coast of South America until it reaches the Caribbean in three to four days’ time. Aerial imagery shows some defined patterns of thunderstorms but conditions ahead are less favourable and at this time neither hunch nor data indicate any particular threat to the Gulf of Mexico or eastern seaboard of the United States, including Florida.

Disturbance Thirty Six is almost stationary around 350 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands, showing on satellite images as a disorganised web of thunderstorms but without surface rotation. This is likely to get a head of steam up and start tracking west into an area favourable for development and a tropical depression may form over the next day or two. The smarter chatterers have this turning to the northwest and not completing the Atlantic crossing, but I’d be cautious.

Stand easy.
