MATTHEW set to reach hurricane strength
Thursday 29th September 2016
Tropical storm MATTHEW is now about 250 miles west of St. Lucia and moving west at 15 knots. MATTHEW has maximum sustained winds of 65 knots and is likely to become a hurricane later today as it moves across the eastern Caribbean before passing north of the Netherlands Antilles tonight. All commentators have now aligned into turning this north over the weekend crossing Jamaica and eastern Cuba as a major hurricane thereafter passing clear of the eastern seaboard. There are no other forecast tracks into the western Gulf of Mexico. Disturbance thirty eight is moving across the Cape Verde Islands now and producing enhanced showers and thunderstorms. There is a slight chance for development over the next week as it moves towards the west. Early days.
Stand by for hurricane conditions across the Netherlands Antilles.
