#MATTHEW to make landfall as category 4 hurricane

Thursday 6th October 2016

Hurricane MATTHEW is located just east of southern Andros Island now and is forecast to continue to strengthen today as it approaches southeast Florida to make landfall as a category 4 hurricane to the north of Palm Beach with 125 knot winds. Destructive hurricane conditions are expected to move into coastal areas of southern Florida tonight. This includes a destructive tidal surge for Lake Okeechobee. These conditions will then spread up the coast into Friday. The forecast track has shifted even closer to the coast of Georgia and South Carolina.

Tropical Storm NICOLE is located 400 miles south of Bermuda and is moving towards the northwest at 6 knots. NICOLE is expected to loaf about in the general vicinity through Friday and over the weekend. There is currently no threat to land. Disturbance thirty eight is located along about 300 miles to the east of the Lesser Antilles. It will bring showers and storms to the Lesser Antilles today and tomorrow. As this tracks into the central Caribbean by early next week, conditions may become more favourable for development. Disturbance forty one is centred around 400 miles north east of the mouth of the Amazon and moving west. No development is expected. Stand by for hurricane conditions in Florida.
