A decent mid-season day across the reporting area

Thursday 20th July 2017

The last knockings of DON are dashing west at a heady 22 knots, about 150 miles north west of Lake Maracaibo. This has brought some increased showers and thunderstorms across northern Colombia and Venezuela but that's about it for DON.

Disturbance Seventeen is now centred about 600 miles due north of the Amazon and moving to the west-nor'west at 12 knots. This looks as if it may pass clear of any land mass at this rate and in any case only if it survives the dual onslaught of upper level shear and dry air in the region.

Disturbance Eighteen has piped up about a day's steaming south of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving west at a leisurely 7 knots. This also has a bit of a punch-up ahead with unfavourable environmental conditions, so all in all making for a decent day across the reporting area.

Stand easy.
