Tropical depression Eighteen rainmaker for Florida

Saturday 28th October 2017

A reconnaissance aircraft has reported a low level circulation centre in Disturbance Fifty Five which has then by definition been upgraded to Tropical Depression Eighteen. Currently centred 350 miles south west of Key West, this is headed north east at 10 knots and is expected to track across Cuba, southern Florida overnight and then onwards to the Bahamas on Sunday. This is battling upper level shear and as things stand, unlikely to reach tropical storm strength although there may be the odd gust in squalls to the east of the centre. This has been given a predicted hurricane severity index rating - currently zero - of 3 out of a possible 50 (1 for size and 2 for intensity). Heavy rain is to be expected along the depression's track over the next 48 hours with potential localised flooding in the Bahamas.

Stand by for heavy rain across Cuba, southern Florida and The Bahamas.
