Developing disturbance headed for eastern Gulf

Tuesday 22nd May 2018

A little late today. My apologies.

Disturbance Two is the only show in town. Currently centred midway between Grand Cayman and Cancun, this system is tracking north at 6 knots and is expected to cross western Cuba and enter the south-eastern Gulf of Mexico in around 48 hours. Once this has cleared Cuba it is expected to develop into a tropical depression or weak tropical storm. Current track models would indicate a brush along the west coast of Florida and a landfall in the Florida panhandle over the weekend.

Sunny afternoon here offshore Louisiana today. However, heavy rain is to be expected across Florida from Thursday onwards. Upper level shear should put paid to any ideas this system may have of hitting hurricane strength.

Stand easy.
