Single disturbance crossing Atlantic

Saturday 25th August 2018

Lone Disturbance Twenty Nine is a day's steaming west of the Cape Verde Islands, westbound at 18 knots. This has very little surface profile and faces hostile conditions ahead. All modellers seem to be writing this off already. My own view is that if this drifts north of its current heading it may find favourable pressure gradients and warm water in store to the south of Florida in late next week. On the other hand, my own dislike of long term predictions would prevent me saying that this is anything other than an unscientific hunch, so I wouldn't encourage anyone to cancel plans for next weekend at the moment.

Stand easy.
