Hurricane LORENZO giving seafarers tough days

Saturday 28th September 2019

From west to east,

There is chatter on the wires around a potential disturbance forming in the northwestern Caribbean next week. This is forecast to slowly edge into the southern Gulf of Mexico by Friday and then west across the southwestern Gulf next weekend. Conditions may be favourable for development but this is highly speculative at the moment.

Category 3 hurricane LORENZO is currently centred 1500 miles south west of the Azores headed west-nor' west at 8 knots. This is still a powerful hurricane making life a misery for fish and sailors with 130 knot winds. This storm will accelerate to the north-nor' east over the next few days and is expected to pass near the Azores on Wednesday as either a hurricane or strong extratropical system. Thereafter this is expected to accelerate to the northeast and could approach western Ireland or the western British Isles on Thursday as a strong non-tropical low-pressure system, but early days yet.

Stand by for more mucky weather in the central Atlantic otherwise stand easy.
