Clouds gathering over western Caribbean

Friday 11th October 2019

From west to east,

Clouds and thunderstorms are gathering in the western Caribbean signalling a potential new disturbance forming overnight tonight. This is going to happen fairly close to the coast of Nicaragua and is expected to track a little west of north which may mean significant interaction with land, which will inhibit development whilst increasing rainfall. If this makes it to the Bay of Campeche next week, it may produce something meaningful, but this is early days yet.

Slow-moving Disturbance Forty Nine is about 230 miles south-sou'east of Cape Cod. Increased thunderstorm activity indicates rising air which may mean some chance of development exists. Irrespective of development, gale force winds are expected for coastal New England overnight and into tomorrow.

Disturbance Fifty is two days west of the Cape Verde Islands westbound at 18 knots. Dry air is keeping a lid on development and is expected to continue to do so as this heads west.
