Failed attack - Somali Basin - 1429Z 13 February 2014
The MSC– HOA has reported the following failed attack on an unidentified merchant vessel in the Somali Basin, just 2.5nm offshore and 89nm south west of Mogadishu Airport, at 1429Z this afternoon, 13 February 2014.
One might suggest a position 2.5 miles off the coast of Somalia to be a blindingly obvious risk, but then not everyone has the luxury of choice or the comfort of sitting behind a desk.

At 1429 UTC / 13FEB2014 a merchant vessel was reported under attack by skiffs in position 01 08 N 044 07 E.
***This vessel managed to evade hijack***

Reference previous alert number 005 / 2014. The M/V was approached by 1 white hulled skiff with 5 POB, all armed with AK-47s.
