Approach by an armed skiff - southern Red Sea - 0815Z 30 November 2013
In their weekly report issued yesterday, the UKMTO rather helpfully gave details of an approach by an armed skiff in the southern Red Sea at 0815Z on 30th November 2013. Our apologies for this late notification:
‘At 0815Z on 30 November in position 15 42N 041 29E, a bulker was approached by a single Yemini style skiff with 7 POB. AK47 rifles were sighted as well as a metal ladder, hooked at one end. Vessel has PMSC on board . The skiff came to within 0.7nm and moved away after observing the vessel for a short time. Vessel is SAFE.'
Rather than waste time and energy searching for 'Yemini style skiff' on the web, we'd suggest that the ladder and AK47s may be a clue to the security lookout.
The colour key for Google earth images is:
Red - Hijacked vessel, kidnapped crew or attack in progress.
White - Failed or aborted attack.
Yellow - Pirate action group (PAG) or mother ship.
